kARNATRiiX Biography

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

KARNATRIIX is not just another trick out of the sagging bag of what goes for fusion music these days. It is the soul-soothing culmination of a band of musicians’ experiments with different styles and sounds, much like a new colour produced by the skillful combination of various hues and shades.

KARNATRIIX’s soundscape stretches out far beyond what has been created hitherto. It is contemporary and yet traditional. It is not simple and yet not complicated. It is electronica and also acoustica. You can chill out or just sit in silent contemplation as the music fills up your senses. Misguided and conflicting it might seem, but the music is direct and clear, offering Indian classical creations in a new age package to people all over the world.

KARNATRIIX’s music has elements of jazz, blues, rock, trance, funk, and classical sounding in perfect harmony with the Carnatic kritis of Saint Thyagaraja. It is not a traditional melody trapped in a melting pot of sampled copy-and-paste grooves topped by more samples of ambient keyboard and bass textures. The music, with a contemporary feel, has been woven carefully around the traditional melody, entailing months of study and a clear and very deep understanding of the different styles and rhythms used in the compositions.

KARNATRIIX features John Anthony on guitars, Ustad Faiyaz Ahamed Khan on vocals/sarangi and “Darbuka” Siva on percussion.

Says John Antony: "Our music is an extension of our soul and freewill. We believe strongly in our freedom to express ourselves by doing what we do best and that is making music and ultimately experiencing it. We hope other people too can share our experience".

If one must pause to describe the music played by Karnatriix, it would be hard not to liken it to a river flowing through the night. Effortless, gentle. Rippling along to an invisible rhythm.

Karnatriix is the brainchild of one of India’s most exceptional guitar players, John Anthony. Accompanying him on this magical journey is a brilliant exponent of the Sarangi, Ustad Faiyaz Ahmed Khan.

Unfolding sounds and grooves with the Indian classical feel. New age chill out fusion band “KARNATRIIX”

The band believes in playing classical music with a difference, but classical music nevertheless.Belief in our freedom to express thoughts by doing what we do best. To allow music. To experience the music that comes along. Music... an extension of our soul and freewill.

Elements of jazz, blues, trance, funk... but Indian at the same time.Simple? No. Complex? Umm... No...Redefining the world of contemporary classical music with New Age groovy sound experiments. A musical evolution... An astral journey of experience...

The Band

Karnatriix is the brainchild of one of India's most accomplished musicians, John Anthony. A guitar virtuoso, he has been mesmerising audiences for over 3 decades in India and overseas.

In an illustrious career that began at the age of 14, John has travelled the fretboard in virtually every genre of music - jazz, blues, rock, western classical, Indian classical, Indian movie soundtracks ... And with the who's who of the Indian music world - TV Gopalakrishnan, Kadiri Gopalnath, L Shankar,AR Rehman, Sivamani, Jo Jo, Zakir Hussain, Vikkoo Vinayakaram, L Subramaniam, Ganesh, Kumaresh, Selvaganesh, Dr Balamuralikrishna, Louis Banks, Carl Peters, Karaikudi R Mani...

The list is endless, and you wouldn't be wrong if you believed there's little he hasn't done. But ask him, and he's quick to say, 'There's still a long way to go'.

Karnatriix, conceived a year ago, is another milestone on that never ending journey. And accompanying him on this magical trip is a brilliant exponent of the Sarangi, Ustad Faiyaz Ahmed Khan.
